How Halo Helped Healthcare Security Teams Safeguard Four Medical Sites
Introduction
KAPAR Security, a trusted provider of specialist healthcare security services in the medical sector, partnered with Halo Solutions to digitise and enhance their operations across multiple NHS and medical sites in the UK.
Deploying Halo across Royal Cornwall Hospital, St Michael’s Hospital, Stithians Surgery and Falmouth University Medical Centre, the KAPAR team sought to modernise how they managed daily activity logs, briefings, and incident reporting to ensure a safer, smarter, and more responsive security environment for patients, staff, and visitors alike.
The Halo System proved invaluable during two serious live incidents at Royal Cornwall Hospital:
-
Critical Missing Child: When a baby was taken from the maternity ward, security staff used Halo to rapidly share a CCTV image and description of the suspect. Within minutes, the individual was identified in the car park. A positive ID from Halo’s incident record enabled the police to act quickly and the baby was safely located and returned to their parent.
-
Manhunt Coordination: The Halo System was also instrumental in supporting a multi-agency search for a wanted murderer believed to be camping on the hospital grounds. Centralised reporting, real-time communication, and photographic evidence shared through Halo ensured rapid coordination with police and site teams.
The Challenge
Healthcare environments present unique challenges for security teams:
- Large, complex sites with multiple departments and entry points
- Time-sensitive, high-stakes incidents often involving vulnerable people
- Paper-based daily occurrence books (DOBs) and briefings that slowed communication
- Shift handovers that risked losing crucial intelligence between teams
KAPAR needed a digital solution that could unify reporting across sites, improve communication between shifts, and ensure fast, coordinated responses to incidents ranging from minor safety issues to critical emergencies.
The Solution
Halo was deployed across all four sites as a centralised, digital incident and task management platform, tailored specifically to KAPAR’s needs in the healthcare sector.
The system provided:
- Digital Daily Occurrence Books (DABs) for logging all activity and handovers
- Quick, mobile reporting through the Halo app, ensuring instant visibility across all hospital sites
- Custom-built incident forms (23 in total) for healthcare-specific scenarios such as patient welfare checks, medical emergencies, and safeguarding alerts
- Task management tools to assign and monitor patrols, lock-up checks, and site rounds
- Intelligence-sharing dashboards for live briefings and cross-site coordination
- Central oversight, allowing KAPAR to monitor all activity across multiple sites at once from a single dashboard with Multi-Dashboard Mode
“Halo allowed us to digitise everything! From daily logs and shift handovers to complex incident responses. It gave us total oversight across multiple hospitals, ensuring we could respond faster and smarter.”
