On the weekend of 29-30 October, Halo supported the emphatic return of the Irish Life Dublin Marathon, in its first race since 2019 due to pandemic cancellations.
With the largest ever pool of 25,000 entrants, Dublin now hosts Europe’s 4th largest marathon and joins a portfolio of marathons that trust Halo’s security information and event management system each year to safely monitor their event.
The deployment to Dublin saw Halo’s security operating centre connect event control with stewards, medical and response teams, police command and sweeper vehicles into one seamless platform.
The Halo System monitored the entire race route, empowering controllers with pinpoint geo-locational tracking of all incidents and updates, to ensure the most effective and accurate incident responses.
In the process, Dublin Marathon protected over 20,000 athletes and the many thousands of spectators, organising teams, volunteers and third-party stakeholders present. This was achieved with Halo as the single source of fully accurate, real-time information on the race’s flow and progress.
The marathon raised a fantastic €9,000,000 in total for charity and brought together the local community as well as athletes from around the world, to further boost Dublin’s international appeal.
Paul Barnes, Event Director of the Irish Life Dublin Marathon & Race Series says:
“Halo proved to be a tool of instrumental value for interlinking all our operations, production and supervisory safety teams, ensuring all the right people had the right information, when it mattered. In this sense, the system was hugely beneficial to our efforts to smoothly manage the most subscribed Dublin Marathon in history.
In event control the tangible benefits were felt. Radio traffic was dramatically reduced thanks to the Halo System’s framework for information storing and incident responses. This kept channels free for key messaging or any potential major incidents – an improvement to resilience of control.
The system was extremely well received by our teams. In an event operation day that totalled over 20 hours, Halo’s ability to file and draw upon key relevant information was hugely time saving and improved the speed of incident responses.
We are already envisioning avenues of expansion for our use of the system and we thank the Halo team for their presence across the event to ensure onboarding was successful.”
Halo Solutions thanks the marathon’s teams for embracing the Halo platform. This reflects Dublin Marathon’s commitment to public safety and translated to a well-marshalled, global-scale event, enjoyed safely by all.
